The Broncos opened the preseason with a 22-0 whitewash of the Bears in Chicago on Thursday night. Here are my three thoughts on the game.....
1) Round 1 of the QB battle goes to Mark Sanchez. He started the game and played the first quarter and finished 10-13 for 99 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. He had a very nice throw to Demaryius Thomas for a 32 yard touchdown on the first drive and outside of forcing an interception over the middle on a bootleg, he looked sharp and in command. He has to be the leader to start the season at this point.
2) Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch looked pretty good as well. Siemian finished 7-12 for 88 yards and he led two field goal scoring drives. Lynch played the whole second half and made some really nice throws. His arm is so much better than Sanchez or Siemian's. Lynch did take a couple of sacks, but I liked how he looked playing alongside the third string guys.
3) The Broncos defense picked up where they left off last year. Even without Von Miller, Demarcus Ware, Chris Harris and Aqib Talib playing in the game, the defense got 7 sacks and completely shut down the Bears 1st, 2nd and 3rd string offense. I know it is only preseason, but it is nice to see that nastiness and edge to the Broncos defense once again.
