The Broncos jumped into the offseason by making some moves the first few days of free agency. Here are some the additions and re-signings they made this past week:
Signings/Re-signings:
The Broncos signed LB Dre Greenlaw to a (3 years $35 million): I really like this signing. Denver needed to address their ILB position and if you have seen Greenlaw play for the 49ers in the past, you know how much of an upgrade he will be for the Broncos defense. I know he missed most of last season with an injury, but he should be back and healthy and ready to go.
Broncos signed Safety Talanoa Hufanga (3 years $45 million): Another position on the defense the Broncos needed to upgrade was Safety. They plucked another free agent from San Francisco. Again, watching the Niners the past few years, you could see the impact Hufanga made on that defense. I really like this signing a lot, and Hufanga will pair well with Brandon Jones in the back end of the Broncos secondary.
The Broncos signed TE Evan Engram (2 years $23 million): The Broncos desperately needed to upgrade their tight end position, and the signing of Engram gives them a legitimate threat in the passing game from that spot. The Broncos will still probably add another TE in the draft, but Engram gives them a guy that can really help Bo Nix.
Broncos signed WR Trent Sherfield (2 years $6 million): This is a move to help with special teams and add some depth at the WR position.
Broncos re-signed DT D.J. Jones (3 years $39 million): This was another move I really liked and hoped would get done. Jones was a stalwart in the middle of the interior defensive line last year, and the Broncos are bringing him back.
Broncos re-signed QB Jarrett Stidham (2 years $12 million): The Broncos needed to make sure that they have a solid backup in case anything happens to Bo Nix, so bringing back Stidham was a good move. It works well for both parties.
Broncos re-signed LB Justin Strnad (1 year $2.7 million): Strnad played a lot at ILB last year when Alex Singleton went down in Week 3 and did an admirable job. But, he is better suited to be a depth/backup LB and a special teams guy, so this move works.
Broncos re-signed OT Matt Peart (2 years $7 million): Peart is a swing tackle on certain formations and packages for Denver, and this is another depth signing.
Broncos re-singed LS Mitch Fraboni (3 years $4 million): The Broncos keep their long snapper for an extended time.
