The Dismantling in the Black Hole

If you scripted a better Week 1 for the Broncos, then I really don't think you can beat what happened in Oakland on Monday Night. Denver's 41-14 destruction of the Raiders was the perfect way to start the season. This was one of the those classic 97/98 Denver victories where the Broncos offense jumped out to a big lead, the defense did it's part on third down and in the red zone, and the other team's defensive coordinator was left to stratch his head and shrug his shoulders. First, Jay Cutler was the story for the Broncos' offense. Cutler played fantastic and throw in the fact that rookie receiver Eddie Royal played like an All-Pro instead of a rookie in his first game in the NFL. Cutler looked great, the receivers played great, the O-line was solid, and the running back trio of Selvin Young, Andre Hall, and Michael Pittman was effiecient. The Broncos looked the vintage Mike Shanahan led Broncos. Secondly, tip your cap to Shannny because he did a great job of putting together a superb game plan and dialed up so many great calls during the game. The Raiders were completely fooled and never knew what was coming. Shanahan is one of the best play callers in the business, and he simply destroyed the Raiders defense all night long. It was a great start to the season, and Denver's offense hasn't been that explosive in at least 3 seasons. I know it is only Week 1, but they got one down and have some confidence going in to Week 2. Up next is San Diego. I have been waiting for this game since Christmas Eve last year. A few things to remember if I am a Bronco player this week. First, remember how Rivers, Shaun Phillips, and the rest of the Chargers mocked and embarrassed our young QB last year. Also, remember how the Chargers buried the Broncos by the combined score of 64-6 in two games in '07. Lastly, the Chargers have won the last 2 games in Denver. Denver needs to reclaim their home field advantage over SD and send a message to the rest of the AFC West.
