Broncos Preseason Thoughts

The Broncos defeated the 49ers on Saturday night 19-12 in Week 3 of the preseason. The Broncos are 3-0 as they head to their final preseason game next week against Arizona, and then the cuts will be made the 53 man roster will be set and all eyes will be focused on the opener in Baltimore. A few things I want to point out about what I have seen so far this preseason.

1) I wouldn't really make a lot out of the fact that Peyton Manning and the Broncos first offense only produced two field goals in the two games they played in preseason. Remember, it is only preseason. There really isn't any scheming or game-planning going on. Everyone needs to relax and wait for the regular season and real games to start criticizing the offense. Manning and Gary Kubiak will find a way to make this offense work-there is too much talent on both ends for it not to be effective.

2) The only thing with Manning I would worry about is the fact that he had Demaryius Thomas open twice on fade routes against SF and he under threw him both times. One was intercepted and the other almost was picked off. I would worry a little bit about that. Is Manning going to make more and more of these mistakes for the simple fact that he is 39 years old? We'll see, but that would have me worried more than anything else.

3) The Broncos defense was stout all preseason. You definitely get a sense that Wade Phillips will be able to bring out the best in this group. I know it is only preseason, but the Denver defense didn't allow a touchdown in their meaningful snaps. This could be the strength of our team this year.
