Broncos-Chiefs and Week 8 Picks

This is about as big of a game for the Broncos that you are going to get in Week 8. Denver is 5-2 and they host the 5-1 Chiefs. Denver lost to the Chiefs in Week 1, so if they lose this game, then they have a real tough road to win the AFC West. A win here, and the Broncos have a real chance to win the division. I always get nervous when Denver is playing Patrick Mahomes, but the Broncos have played well against KC at home the last few years. I'll do something I don't normally do, and I'll ride the Broncos as home underdogs this week.

Prediction: DENVER (+1.5) over Kansas City

Final Score: Broncos-23 Chiefs-20

Broncos-Cardinals and Week 7 Picks

The Broncos head to Arizona with a 4-2 record to take on the 2-4 Cardinals. Before the season, this looked like one of the most winnable games on the schedule, but after the Cards beat the Rams last week, this might be a tough game-especially with Bo Nix and the Broncos offense struggling. After a gauntlet of games to start the season, Denver finds itself at 4-2 and with a chance to get on a roll here. I can't see the Broncos blowing out the Cardinals with the way the offense has looked so far this season. Maybe they can get it on track this week, but I have a feeling the defense is going to have to lead the way once again. This feels like another nail-biter.

Prediction: ARIZONA (+4.5) over Denver

Final Score: Broncos-23 Cardinals-20

Broncos-Seahawks Week 6 TNF Pick

The Broncos are 3-2 after a hard-fought 23-17 win over the winless Chargers last week in LA. Now, they return home to Denver on a short week to take on the 3-2 Seahawks. This is a tough game for the Broncos. Obviously, a short week of preparation doesn't help Denver and their struggling offense. Bo Nix has not played well this season, and it seems like a lot to ask for him to suddenly catch fire playing that Seattle defense-even at home. Plus, the Broncos are dealing with a lot of injury issues right now. Pat Surtain and Talanoa Hufanga are both out of this game with ankle injuries, and Riley Moss is questionable. I said before the season that if Denver was 3-3 after their first six games, then they would be in good shape for the rest of the season. They have played a brutal schedule to start the year, and the Seahawks might be their toughest test. I think the Broncos will be able to go on a winning streak after this game, but I would be very surprised if they won tonight.

Prediction: Seattle (-2.5) over DENVER

Final Score: Seahawks-20 Broncos-7

Broncos-Chargers and Week 5 Picks

A lot of drama in Denver this week coming off of last week's loss at SF. Sean Payton has resumed play-calling from Davis Webb after four games and a 2-2 start. You can argue that the play-calling hasn't been good, but the real problem with the offense is Bo Nix. He just isn't playing well at all. I don't know if the ankle is still an issue and he is not fully healthy, but he just doesn't look right. The whole offense looks broken and not right either. I know the Chargers are banged up for this game and coming in at 0-4, but I still just don't trust the Broncos.

Prediction: CHARGERS (+3.5) over Denver

Final Score: Chargers-23 Broncos-20

Broncos-49ers and Week 4 Picks

The Broncos won a classic last week on SNF at home against the Rams. The 30-26 victory was another great Broncos comeback- something they have perfected the last season and a half. At 2-1, Denver heads to SF to take on the 3-0 49ers. This is another challenge in this tough stretch to open the season. It is going to be really hot in San Francisco this Sunday, and it will be tough for Denver to hold up against this Niners team. Denver can't get off to a slow start once again and expect to win this game. I think the Broncos could get grinded out in this one.

Prediction: SAN FRANCISCO (-2.5) over Denver

Final Score: 49ers-27 Broncos-17

Broncos-Rams and Week 3 Picks

The Broncos rebounded with a strong second half last week in the Week 2 win over Jacksonville. Down 13-3, Denver made a comeback to win the game 20-13. It was a game that was very reminiscent of a lot of last year's games. Now, the schedule gets even tougher. The Rams, fresh off a win over the Giants, come into Denver for Sunday Night Football. This is one of the marquee games of the weekend, and it will be an interesting measuring point for this Broncos team. I expect a close game, but I think the Rams will be too much for Denver in this one.

Prediction: Rams (-2.5) over DENVER

Final Score: Rams-26 Broncos-20

Broncos-Jaguars and Week 2 Picks

The Broncos got absolutely embarrassed Monday night in the 2026 opener at Kansas City. The 31-10 loss was really disappointing. When you wait almost eight months for the season to start, and then your team comes out and gives a performance like the Broncos gave in that game is really discouraging. There's no way around it. A lot of people will overreact to Week 1, and it does tend to fool people, but I am worried about the Broncos. Their first six games doesn't give them time to figure things out. It won't get any easier this week when the Jaguars come to Denver. Jacksonville buried the Broncos 34-17 last year in December in Denver, and the Jags won their first game at home in convincing fashion. I would expect Denver to play better in this game, but I don't think it will be enough. I think the Jags will come to Denver and win again.

Prediction: Jacksonville (+2.5) over DENVER

Final Score: Jaguars-31 Broncos-20

Broncos-Chiefs and Week 1 Picks

The Broncos open up the 2026 season on the road in Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football. This is a tough opener in my opinion. Patrick Mahomes, who tore his ACL on December 14th in a game against the Chargers, is going to start this game after recovering from knee surgery this offseason. It is pretty remarkable that Mahomes is ready to go for the opener. For reference, Micah Parsons tore his ACL on the same day and he is out the first four games of this season at least. If you are Denver, you have to expect the full level of Mahomes. If he wasn't there, then I can't see how KC would put him out there. In any case, I think Mahomes will play well and it will probably inspire his team. The crowd will be fired up and that will pose a problem for Denver. I haven't like this matchup since the day the schedule came out, and nothing has changed my opinion. I think Denver has the better overall team, but I have a feeling this night will belong to Mahomes

Prediction: KANSAS CITY (-2.5) over Denver

Final Score: Chiefs-27 Broncos-20

Broncos 2026 Season Preview

With training camp behind us, the Broncos have finalized their roster and are looking forward to the beginning of the 2026 season and their Week 1 season opener at Kansas City on Monday Night Football. The Broncos are coming off a 14-3 season, an AFC West Title, and a berth in AFC Championship Game. The expectations have changed in Denver. Just like last year, I'm doing a preview of the Broncos season as the 2026 season is about to get going. Here's this year's 2026 Denver Broncos Preview......

Where we left off?  The last time we saw the Broncos they were walking off Empower Field at Mile High in a snowstorm just as they lost to the Patriots 10-7 in the AFC Championship Game. Bo Nix got hurt in the Divisional Round win over Buffalo the week before, and the Broncos played hard in his absence, but fell short in disappointing fashion to end a great 2025 season.

What changed? The Broncos really ran it back in the offseason. They brought most of their key players back. They added Jaylen Waddle to the offense, and lost Dre Greenlaw and Jonathan Franklin-Meyers. Otherwise, the team is basically the same. One of the biggest changes in the offseason was Sean Payton giving up play-calling in favor of OC Davis Webb.

New Faces in Denver: The Broncos were quiet in the beginning of free agency, but made a big trade a few days in when they acquired WR Jaylen Waddle from the Dolphins. Waddle is the explosive playmaker that this offense desperately needed. In the draft, Denver added DT Tyler Onyedim and RB Jonah Coleman. Both are expected to contribute in a some way during the season.

Bo Nix Year 3: Bo Nix enters his third season as the Broncos QB, and he has gained a reputation as a great late-game, come from behind QB. Nix threw for 3,931 yards, 25 TDs and 11 INT last season. He also ran for five TDs. He led Denver to a 14-3 record, the AFC West Title, the #1 overall seed in the AFC, and defeated the Bills in the Divisional Round for Denver's first playoff win in 10 years. He outplayed Josh Allen in that game, and proved to be one of the best up and coming QBs in the NFL. His broken ankle on the second to last play of the Divisional Playoff Game ended his season and he missed the AFC Championship. If anyone had doubts about how much Nix means to the Broncos, then look at how badly Denver missed him in the that game against the Pats. If Nix plays, then the Broncos go to the Super Bowl.

Rookies to Watch: Tyler Onyedim was drafted to rotate in and help ease the departure of Johnathan Franklin-Meyers. RB Jonah Coleman was drafted to compete for playing time in the backfield and contribute to the run game. It will be interesting to see how Coleman can get on the field and make an impact.

Impact Players: On offense, obviously you want Bo Nix to continue his rise to a franchise QB, and he does need to elevate his game even more. Courtland Sutton, Jaylen Waddle, Marvin Mims, and Pat Bryant could give the Broncos one of the best receiving groups in the NFL. The offense needs to take the next step with this group. On defense, the Broncos have a lot to live up from last season's performance. But, they have impact players at each level. Zach Allen on the defensive line, Nik Bonitto off the edge, and Pat Surtain at CB. This group has depth too, but these three players have to have great seasons again for the defense to continue to be a force.

Schedule Outlook: The Broncos have the roughest and toughest six games to start the season that I can remember in a long, long time. They go to KC Week 1, then host Jacksonville Week 2. They host the Rams in Week 3, and they head to SF in Week 4 and the Chargers in Week 5. In Week 6, they host the Seahawks on TNF. They have 5 out of their first 6 games against teams who made the playoffs last year, and the other game is against the returning Pat Mahomes in Arrowhead on MNF. If Denver can be 3-3 after those first six games, then they are in good shape the rest of the way.

Final Thoughts: After making the playoffs in 2024 and making it to the AFC Championship in 205, the expectations have changed in Denver. GM George Paton has created a solid roster, and HC Sean Payton and changed the culture in Denver and made the Broncos into a contender. The Broncos are now considered one of the top teams in the AFC. A deep playoff run and/or berth in the Super Bowl is now the goal and expectation for this team. Anything less than that is a disappointment in 2026.

Week 18-Sat/Sun January 9th/10th: LA Chargers (TBD)

-We knew the Broncos were going to have tougher opponents in 2026, but the first six games are absolutely brutal. Going back to 2002, when the NFL expanded to 32 teams, eight divisions, and the current opponent rotation schedule, this is by far the most difficult opening to a season ever for the Broncos. Five out of the first six opponents were playoff teams last year, and the other is the Chiefs in Arrowhead in Week 1. Just a really tough way to start the year. If Denver is 3-3 after those six, then I will be happy. 4-2 and I'll be ecstatic.

-After Week 6, the schedule becomes very manageable. The next eight games are definitely games that the Broncos can make up ground in the standings if they falter to start the year.

-The last three games are very difficult as well. The Christmas game against the Bills at home, then a trip to New England, and they finish at home against the Chargers. Those three games are tough and will be not be easy in games that will really determine the Broncos playoff fate.

-The Broncos got three primetime games. A MNF game at KC, SNF at home against the Rams, and TNF at home against the Seahawks. All three games are very attractive games. They also go to Pittsburgh for Black Friday, and the Christmas game at home vs Buffalo is a standalone, marquee game as well. I like the Black Friday game, but I'm not a fan of Christmas games, so I'd rather see that game another day.
