Broncos Blow Lead and Fall to Jaguars, Drop To 0-4

Any Sunday and another loss for the Broncos. This time it was at the hands of the Jaguars and Gardner Minshew in Denver. The Broncos had a 17-3 lead late in the second quarter, but squandered the lead in the second half, and then watched as the Jags hit the game-winning field goal as time expired to win it 26-24. The loss drops Denver to 0-4 for the first time since 1999. Here are my thoughts and observations about the game....

1) The Broncos started fast and looked really good early on. Two Joe Flacco TD passes gave Denver a 17-3 in the second quarter. I really did not think that the Jags would be able to mount the comeback on the road at that point.

2) The turning point of the game was when Flacco got intercepted deep in Jax territory near the end of the half. It was a terrible throw and the Jaguars converted it into a field goal and a 17-6 deficit.

3) Jacksonville took control from there behind the play of Minshew and Leonard Fournette. Fournette gashed the Denver defense for over 200 yards, and Minshew made some big time plays to give the Jags a 23-17 lead late in the fourth quarter.

4) Give Joe Flacco credit because he drove the Broncos down the field and hit Courtland Sutton for the go-ahead score to make it 24-23 with over a minute and a half left. The Broncos defense had to be able to get a stop on Minshew, but they didn't. They are the goats of the game. You can't let a rookie QB drive down the field to win the game late in Denver against your defense. Unfortunately, it happened for the second time in three weeks and the second time at home.

5) This loss hurts because at 0-4 the Broncos season is essentially over by the time we hit October 1st. You don't come back from 0-4 in the NFL. The Broncos should have NEVER lost this game, and it is a shame that they did. They are really bad in my opinion. This franchise continues to hit all-time lows over the past three seasons. Now, they head to LA to take on the Chargers with the possibility of going 0-5 for the first time in franchise history.
